SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, June 19, 2019 — Meat Hunger is partnering with South Bend-based non-profit – food rescue organization, Cultivate to fight hunger in the Michiana area. Cultivate’s mission is devoted to organizing our community resources to fight hunger through food rescue.

Cultivate’s backpack program currently provides meals to hundreds of food-insecure children in local area schools. Meat Hunger is a youth-led livestock auction buyer’s group that uses the donations they receive to purchase the livestock projects from fellow 4-H members at the St. Joe County 4-H livestock auction.

Their mission is, “To address food insecurity in St. Joseph County one protein-based serving at a time.”

In partnership with Meat Hunger, up to 75% of its animal products will go to Cultivate this year. The meat that is purchased is from the auction is processed through Hoosier Feeding the Hungry – for free.

Who Benefits?

  • 4-H youth who sell their livestock projects through the auction are paid above market price. These profits help fund the group’s annual project and prepare for college.
  • The Indiana 4-H Youth Development Program provides real-life educational opportunities to youth. These programs work to help young people reach their full potential and have a positive impact on their world.
  • Donors are publicly recognized for their support at the St. Joseph County 4-H Fair and during the St. Joseph County Livestock Auction.

With the support of Meat Hunger and other area partners, Cultivate is able to feed hundreds of children who would otherwise go hungry. Every dollar that you give goes to feeding another hungry child in our area. Help fulfill the mission of Cultivate, in ending hunger in Michiana, by making a tax-deductible donation directly to Cultivate or directly to Meat Hunger. Cash, PayPal, and livestock donations are gladly accepted as well. Please make checks payable and mailed to:
